A professor of epistemology, critical thinking and philosophy of science at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Benson Monehin Akinnawonu, has been inducted as a full member of the Nigeria Academy of Letters.
Akinnawonu, who is also the National President of the Philosophers Association of Nigeria, received the recognition during the 28th convocation of the academy, held on Thursday at the J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium, University of Lagos.
The Nigeria Academy of Letters is the umbrella body for professional associations in the humanities in Nigeria and promotes scholarship, research and intellectual development in the field.
The don, a Fellow of the Philosophers Association of Nigeria, has served Adekunle Ajasin University in several capacities, including Dean of the Postgraduate School, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Director of the Academic Planning Unit.
He also served two terms as a member of the university’s Governing Council, contributing to the institution’s academic and administrative development.
Akinnawonu is an alumnus of the Galilee International Management Institute, Israel, and a member of the Intellect-Base International Consortium, United States of America.
Speaking on the recognition, the professor said his induction would provide greater opportunities to project the academic contributions of Adekunle Ajasin University to the international community.
He said, “The induction will enhance the visibility of Adekunle Ajasin University and provide a platform to showcase our contributions to knowledge globally. It will also open doors for high-level academic collaborations and further enrich my intellectual engagements in the humanities.”
