As part of steps aimed at combating crimes and ensuring adequate security, the authorities of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo has procured biometric devices for the institution.
The Acting Director, Management Information System, Dr. Kehinde Adenegan presented the equipment to the Provost in his office in a brief ceremony held in the Provost’s office.
He explained that the hi-tech security devices would help in strengthening internal security and assist staff in the security department to function effectively.
Describing the biometric devices as multipurpose, he explained that the machine would assist in checkmating examination malpractice, discovering student status and serve as pool for searching staff and student information when fully installed with the appropriate software and customized for the College.
While explaining that the machine could be used as mobile phone and tablet, Adenegan maintained that the device would only be dedicated for checking examination malpractice and security purposes.
He said: “This device can do other things beyond biometric data capturing, as it can also be used as mobile phone and tablet but we want to dedicate it for security purposes so that we don’t use it for any other thing. Therefore our software unit has to customize a software, which will suit our purpose,” he noted.
The Acting Director MIS lauded management of the College for making security of lives and property a priority through the provisions of security equipment, which will help the College fight criminal activities to a large extent.”
Responding, the Provost, Dr. Samuel Akintunde commended Adenegan and other supporting staff of the MIS for the various contributions made to the advancement of the institution.
The College administrator described the purchase and installation of the biometric devices “as a step forward in achieving some of our vision.”
He explained that the procurement of the security gadgets was aimed at ensuring that “We have adequate security on the campus, so it is a plus for all of you at the MIS.”
