Represented by his Deputy, Dr Olayide Adelami, Aiyedatiwa presented cheques to the beneficiaries during the Final Parade, Laying of Wreaths, and empowerment programme for the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, held at the Government Cenotaph, Alagbaka, Akure.

In his address, the Governor highlighted the significance of the annual event as a solemn tradition to honour the sacrifices of the nation’s fallen heroes and appreciated the contributions of living veterans.

He described the occasion as a culture of honour and urged citizens to reflect on the profound impact of the service rendered by the fallen heroes while remembering the families they left behind.

Highlighting the plight of the widows, Aiyedatiwa announced the approval of ₦35 million for their empowerment, an increase from last year’s allocation.

He revealed that 61 widows benefited from the state’s interest-free microcredit loan scheme last year and assured that the increased funding would accommodate more beneficiaries.

The Governor also appealed to citizens to collaborate with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities to ensure the safety and security of lives and property.

He further urged residents of the state to remain law-abiding as the local government elections approach, emphasising the need for peaceful participation.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Deaconess Lola Fagbemi, in her vote of thanks, acknowledged the efforts of the armed forces in promoting peace and unity in the country.
