Akeredolu distributes 200,000 cocoa seedlings today

The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu will today commence the free distribution of 200,000 hybrid cocoa seedlings to farmers across the state.

The free distribution of the seedlings to farmers by the state government was in line with its determination to assist farmers and ensure that the state maintain its leading position as the leading cocoa producing state in Nigeria.

According to release signed by Press Officer of Ministry of Agriculture, Meshack, Olaoluwa, Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Adegboyega Adefarati said thousands of cashew seedlings would also be distributed to farmers free at the ceremony.

He said the state government was working in tandem with the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria, the DAWN commission, with Ondo State focusing on agriculture as potent tool for job creation and poverty alleviation.

The Commissioner enjoined cocoa and cashew farmers across the state to take advantage of the opportunity to regenerate their old farms as well as establish new plantations.

The event which was earlier scheduled to hold on Thursday will now hold today 31st August, 2018 at the Federal College of Agriculture (FECA), Akure by noon.

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu will perform the flag-off at the ceremony which is expected to be graced by stakeholders in the agricultural sector including farmers.
