A community leader and legal practitioner, Olusegun Adu-Peters, has called for urgent Federal Government intervention on the Irun-Ogbagi-Ikare-Akoko Federal Road in Ondo State, saying its rehabilitation would unlock economic activities and improve security in the area.
Adu-Peters, an indigene of Irun-Akoko in Akoko North-West Local Government area, made the appeal following the omission of the road from the Federal Government’s recently approved projects.
Rather than faulting the government, the lawyer urged relevant authorities to consider the strategic importance of the road and include it in future development plans, stressing that its poor condition had made transportation difficult for residents and businesses.
In a statement issued, Adu-Peters appealed to the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, and the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to facilitate federal attention to the road.
He also urged federal lawmakers representing Akoko and adjoining communities to intensify advocacy for the project through the budgetary and legislative processes.
Adu-Peters said, “The Irun-Ogbagi-Ikare-Akoko Federal Road is too important to be left unattended. We appeal to the Federal Government to consider the needs of the people and provide the necessary intervention.”
He noted that the road links communities in Ondo and Ekiti States, making stronger cooperation among federal representatives from the two states necessary to secure its rehabilitation.
The community leader said fixing the road would ease movement, stimulate trade, support farmers and businesses, and complement ongoing efforts to strengthen security in the affected communities.
He urged political leaders and government officials to seize the opportunity to bring meaningful federal infrastructure to Akoko, assuring that the people would greatly benefit from the rehabilitation of the strategic road
