Today, I write with a heart full of gratitude and optimism to commend two visionary leaders whose commitment to infrastructure development is reshaping the economic and social landscape of our beloved Ondo State.
Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserve our collective praise for their bold and timely interventions in addressing the critical need for improved road networks, particularly the early take-off of the Akure-Idanre road dualisation and the ongoing construction and rehabilitation of federal roads linking Ondo State.
The Akure-Idanre road, a vital artery connecting the state capital to the historic and agriculturally rich Idanre, has long been a source of frustration for commuters, farmers, and businesses alike.
The single carriageway, once sufficient, had become a bottleneck, causing delays, impeding the movement of goods, and contributing to safety concerns. Governor Aiyedatiwa’s swift action in flagging off the dualisation of the first 10-kilometre phase of this road on April 30, 2025, is a testament to his administration’s dedication to fulfilling campaign promises and prioritizing the needs of the people.
This project, which includes modern traffic systems, solar-powered streetlights, and pedestrian walkways, is not merely a road but a lifeline that will enhance connectivity, boost tourism to the iconic Idanre Hills, and drive economic growth by facilitating the seamless transport of agricultural produce to markets in Akure and beyond.
Governor Aiyedatiwa’s foresight in approving this project during the State Executive Council meeting on April 16, 2025, demonstrates a clear focus on strategic infrastructure development. His administration’s commitment to completing both ongoing and inherited projects, as evidenced by the dualisation and the simultaneous renovation of schools and technical colleges across the state, reflects a holistic approach to governance that prioritises progress and prosperity for all. The inclusion of features like a 28-meter-wide dual carriageway and robust pavement structure ensures that this road will serve current needs while accommodating future growth, a move that will benefit generations to come.
Equally deserving of commendation is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose leadership has created an enabling environment for states to undertake transformative capital projects. The ongoing construction and rehabilitation of federal roads linking Ondo State to other parts of the country are pivotal to unlocking the state’s economic potential.
These federal interventions complement state efforts, ensuring that Ondo State is better connected to national trade and commerce networks. By providing fiscal space and policy support, President Tinubu has empowered subnational governments like Ondo State to execute ambitious infrastructure projects that drive sustainable development. Governor Aiyedatiwa himself acknowledged this support during the flag-off ceremony, noting the critical role of federal backing in making such initiatives possible.
The synergy between the state and federal governments in prioritising infrastructure is a model of cooperative governance that should be emulated nationwide. The Akure-Idanre road dualisation, coupled with the rehabilitation of federal roads, will reduce travel times, enhance safety, create jobs, and stimulate economic activities across multiple sectors, from agriculture to tourism. These projects are a powerful testament to what can be achieved when leaders work with purpose and vision to address the needs of their people.
As a stakeholder in Ondo State’s development, I am particularly encouraged by the potential of these projects to attract investors, particularly in tourism and real estate, sectors in which my firms, Comate Properties Ltd and Comate Luxe Interior Designs Ltd, are actively engaged. Improved road networks will make Idanre’s rich cultural heritage and natural attractions more accessible, while enhanced connectivity across the state will spur property development and economic growth.
In conclusion, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his unwavering commitment to transforming Ondo State through strategic infrastructure projects like the Akure-Idanre road dualisation. I also salute President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership in supporting the construction and rehabilitation of federal roads that connect Ondo State to the rest of Nigeria. These efforts are laying the foundation for a prosperous and inclusive future, and I urge all citizens to support these initiatives as we collectively build a stronger, more connected Ondo State.
Let us continue to rally behind our leaders as they work tirelessly to deliver the dividends of democracy. Together, we can make Ondo State a shining example of progress and development.
