Be patriotic, selfless, Nigerians urged

A political analyst, Mr Adegoke Adeyemi has called on Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of patriotism and selflessness in order to experience development and growth in the country.

Adeyemi who made the call in a chat with The Hope, noted that all forms of vices like corruption, kidnapping, violence, and  series of decadence in the nation’s system that have put the country backwards should be tackled if the nation is to move forward.

He urged politicians to be truthful to the electorate, saying that Nigerians have suffered enough from deceit and violence.

He, however, noted that with outcomes from recent elections, Nigerians having learnt a lesson and have begun to eschew violence and ignorance.

“All Nigerians, home and abroad, should imbibe the spirit of patriotism and focus on nation building. We must show concern to the state of the nation.

“It is high time for Nigerians to work tirelessly towards the task of rebuilding Nigeria to ensure unity and progress, the time is now for Nigerians to demand for truths and not lies, it is time for Nigerians to reject politicians who are not interested in building the country.

“It is time for a new crop of leaders who will be genuinely interested in rebuilding and restructuring the nation, somebody who will take present risks for future benefits, who will, with the help of God, put Nigeria among successful nations,” he said.

He stressed the need for an end to the over reliance on the oil and gas sector, saying that frequent drop in price could lead to a retrogression of the nation’s economy, citing  example of the manufacturing and agricultural  sectors as  good alternatives to the petroleum sector.

“This is a necessity as a solution to the recession, industrialisation is a master key to put the nation among the top ranking nations of the world. Nations like the US, Britain, China and Japan get majority of their GDPs from these sectors.

“We must all have a determination to promote the ideals of transparency, honesty, patriotism and strong faith in God which are necessities to move our nation forward,” he advised.
