Commission trains 7,000 staff

No fewer than 7,000 staffers of the Ondo State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) from six different cadres have been trained in different fields.

The Chairman of the commission, Mr Femi Idris stated this yesterday while speaking with  newsmen after the opening session of a two-day training on administrative skills organised for staff by the commission in conjunction with Cade Management Konsults held at the state Public Service Training Institute, Ilara-Mokin.

Idris represented at the event by Commissioner one in charge of training and Manpower at the commission, Prince Ife Iji said that the various trainings are meant to ensure best practices and good results from the local government system.

He commended the state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,  for the approval of the training fund in August which he said has made the numerous training possible.

His words: “We thank the governor for approving the training fund for us which has enabled us to put up these training, The 1percent approved for us by the governor is a statutory vote for training of staff of the commission.

“We discovered there were lots of deficiencies in the system. Most people cannot write memo, even good speeches were difficult to come by.

“We expect that after this workshop, our administrative officers would have acquired adequate skill to write effortlessly good memo and speech among other writings on the job”, he expressed optimism.

While declaring open the training, Idris charged the participants to pay rapt attention saying the consultant was carefully selected to deliver needed skills and knowledge for them.

Speaking, the Permanent Secretary at the commission, Mr. Ade Akinbosade Esq. said the training fund approved by the governor has resuscitated the various training and returning of staff which he said has been left long ago.

According to him: “This training which was held about 10 years ago was essentially for administrative staff to enhance their skills in official memo writing, exco memo writing, official minuting for them to be in tune with the latest standards.

Akinbosade therefore encouraged them to put in their best so that they can raise the standard of the system higher for effective and efficient service delivery so that the training fund would not amount to a waste.
