Coronavirus: Osun inaugurates 15-member committee

The Osun State Government has  inaugurated a 15-member action committee as a proactive measure to curtail the coronavirus epidemic, owing to the recent confirmed case of the virus in the nation.

The State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola disclosed this while addressing newsmen at the Ministry of Health in Osogbo

Oyetola, who was represented by his deputy, Mr Benedict Alabi noted that the committee is targeted at ensuring an effective surveillance system, while continuously sensitizing the public on coronavirus.

He added that the committee will ensure a proper mobilization of resources to manage confirmed cases, as well as, prevent the spread of the  disease.

“This is to show the importance which the government gives to the health and wellbeing of the citizens. To ensure that no life is lost.”

Oyetola further implored all private organisations to cooperate and comply with the given information in order to collectively combat this menace in the nation and prevent its spread to the state.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Dr Olusiji Olamiju stated that the state government has embarked on a proactive campaign against coronavirus 26 days prior to the confirmed case in the nation, adding that some measures had been put in place in order to mitigate the spread of the ravaging coronavirus.

Olamiju stressed that the government is operating a high-level risk communication awareness at the garages and public places.

He further stated that part of the measures targeted at reinvigorating the effort of the government is the provision of an emergency toll-free line, 293, which the citizens of Osun can report suspected cases of coronavirus, noting that some of the symptoms are sneezing, coughing and shortness of breath.

“The government has provided facilities to aid the transportation of as suspected persons to health care centres,” he added.

The SA, however, implored the public to avoid dehydration by sipping water at least every 15 minutes and have a deep breath for some minutes after waking up.

“People should imbibe the culture of handwashing because coronavirus is a droplet infection in the sense that if one sneezes or coughs. They should limit the rate at which their hands are placed on the face, maintain a good distance from anyone who is coughing or sneezing or fever,” he added.

He assuage any form of fear or panic in the public, adding that the government is combat-ready to “ensure that no one in Osun falls victim of the coronavirus”

“Osun is safe, and people should not panic.”
