Court remands driver for killing student

An Ondo Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a 46-year-old van driver, Benson Akogun, in Ondo Correctional Centre  over the death of a 21-year-old student, Larry Aremu.

The Hope Metro gathered that Akogun, was the driver of a Nissan patrol towing van with number plate Lagos KTU 03 XK.

Akogun was charged to court for driving  dangerously on the public highway which caused the death of the deceased.

Prosecution said he committed the offence  on October at about 9am at Igunshin, along Ondo /Ore road Ondo in the Ondo Magisterial District.

The offence contravene Sections 18 and 18(1) of the Road Traffic Laws, Cap 136, Volume 3, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

But the plea of the defendant was not taken.

The police prosecutor, Gbenga Akinsulure, applied for a date for advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The Magistrate, Mrs Ijeh directed that hearing notice should be served on the state Commissioner of Police and the DPP.

She adjourned the case till November 14, 2022 for advice.
