Court remands labourer for stealing corn

A 30-year-old labourer, James Joseph, has been remanded by an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing maize from a farm.
The accused person allegedly committed the offence on September 3, 2021 at Ogudu Village via Ile-Ife.
The prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused person stole maize worth N63,000, property of one Johnson Olarewaju.
He said the accused person conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of public peace when he trespassed Johnson’s farm.
The offence contravened the provisions of Sections 249 (d) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The accused person who was charged with theft pleaded guilty to the charge leveled against him.
In his ruling, Magistrate Adedotun Ayeni ordered that the remand of the accused person at Ile-Ife Correctional centre, pending judgement..
The case was adjourned till September 23 for sentencing.
