An Akure Magistrate’s Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State capital, has struck out an assault charge filed against the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Seun Osamaye.
The case, which centred on an alleged assault on Chief Magistrate, Mrs Temitope Alphonso, was said to have occurred in the presence of staff of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
When the matter came up for hearing, counsel to the prosecution informed the court that both parties had reached an agreement and consequently urged the court to strike out the case.
The prosecution counsel, Barrister A.V. Ajayi, sought the withdrawal of the charge following an agreement between the complainant and the defendant to settle the matter out of court.
Counsel to the defendant, Barrister A.K. Adewusi, also appealed to the court to grant the application.
In his ruling, the presiding magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, struck out the case against the commissioner based on the report of settlement by both parties.
It will be recalled that on December 30, 2025, Dr Seun Osamaye was arraigned before an Akure Magistrate Court over an alleged assault on Mrs Alphonso following a dispute concerning the custody of a vulnerable child.
