Crashes: Community leaders want driving etiquette enforced

Worried by the influx of articulated vehicles and their reckless drivers, concerned Akoko citizens and community leaders have urged the Federal Roads Safety Corps, the Police and other security agents to enforce the driving safety etiquette on the drivers.
Akoko roads particularly Akungba, Ikare, Arigidi, Ikaram axis have for some time now been recording frequent accidents.
An octogenarian and the Chairman Ikare Akoko Elders Forum, Mr James Oladetohun complained bitterly about the driving habit of the trailer drivers and the way they usually park indiscriminately.
Oladetohun said this led to accidents posed had threat to residents of Akoko.
A resident of Erusu Akoko, Mr Edwards Oladehinde, condemned the way big trucks destroyed roads in Akoko, causing gridlock and accidents.
Oladeinde referred to many fatal accidents caused by these trucks on Okerigbo hill in Akungba leading to the death of innocent students of Adekunle Ajasin Akungba Akoko and residents of the town.
The commander of the Federal Roads Safety Corps, Ikare Akoko Unit, Mr Oluropo Alabi, said that his men bad caution the drivers of these long vehicles on how they drive recklessly on daily basis.
Oluropo noted that double parking instruction to vehicles particularly in Akungba, Ikare Arigidi and other towns were usually enforced jointly by security agents.
He said they would not relent in their efforts at making roads safe at all time.
