Democracy @ 20: Nigerians yearn for adequate security

As Nigeria celebrated her 20 years uninterrupted democracy, on Wednesday, citizens of the country have called on government at all levels to ensure that lives and property of citizens are guaranteed.
Some residents of Osun state who spoke on the celebration harped on the need for government to tackle insecurity in the country.
An economist and public analyst, Dr Tunji Ogunyemi in his opinion said the Federal Government should be firm in dealing with criminality rocking the nation.
He said as a matter of urgency, the government must ensure that the issues of kidnapping, assassination and insurgency are addressed.
While speaking on State of the economy of Nigeria, Ogunyemi said government should find other possible means of generating revenue to sustain the economy and also improve on electricity in order to attract investors.
Also speaking, Consultant to Osun state government on Mining, Mrs Jumoke Lawoyin who congratulated Nigerians and President Muhammadu Buhari for his second term inauguration, said it will allow him build on what he started in his first term.
She said for any development to take place in Nigeria, the security issue needs to be adequately dealt with.
Lawoyin noted that insecurity dissuades investors from coming into the country for the fear of their lives and property.
She urged government at all levels to be proactive in tackling insecurity in the country.
In his own view, a businessman in Osogbo, Abdulateef Ayeni said democracy has come to stay in Nigeria, hence the need to prioritize security if we want to continue to enjoy the uninterrupted democracy.
While speaking on the rate of insecurity that has eroded the nation, he urged Nigerians to stop deliberating on whether we can live together as one country.
Alhaji Lawal in his own submission said we have to congratulate ourselves for the 20 years of uninterrupted democracy and also the Federal Government for sustaining democracy till today.
He however stressed that Nigerians are in dire need of a lot of things, ranging from security, welfare among others.
