Appraising the advancing roles of youths in party politics in Ondo State, a United Kingdom-based group, Ondo Youths in Diaspora (OSYiD), has said former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Victor Olabimtan, stands out as foremost motivator.
Olabintan, currently Chairman, Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the group stated, demonstrated the quality amply in the build-up to last November’s governorship election of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in which the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) won overwhelmingly in the entire 18 local council areas of the state.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Coordinator of OSYiD, Amb Gbenga Olukayode, which Weekend Hope obtained, the group recalled how Olabimtan integrated various youth groups in Ondo State into the campaign structure of Governor Aiyedatiwa.
Olukayode, fondly known as Pedro, averred that Olabimtan particularly demonstrated his capacity for bringing about unity and Cohesion, grassroots development, strengthening of internal democracy, building Strategic Alliances and focusing on youth and women engagement, to strengthen the state’s APC.
“Olabimtan offers a clear, comprehensive vision that will strengthen the party, promote inclusivity, and ensure that the APC remains a dominant force in Ondo State.
“He believes that a united APC is the bedrock of electoral success, and will, as such, foster a more inclusive party structure that listens to all voices and ensures that every member feels valued,” Olukayode averred.
He added that with his extensive experience at the grassroots level, Olabimtan understands the importance of engaging party members at all levels.
“His focus will be on strengthening the party’s base by ensuring that APC members, from the local government level to the state level, are equipped with the tools and opportunities to succeed.
“As a proponent of transparency and accountability, Rt. Hon. Olabimtan will prioritise the reinforcement of internal democracy within the APC.
“This will ensure that leadership positions within the party are filled based on merit and the will of the people, not just political patronage.”
According to the OSYiD coordinator, Olabimtan’s proven track record of collaboration with key stakeholders, including local leaders and national figures, positions him to build strong, strategic alliances that will benefit the APC in the long term.
He added that his leadership role would enable the party to work harmoniously with other political actors and organisations, ensuring collective success in future elections.
“Recognising the critical role of youth and women in modern politics, Olabimtan is committed to creating platforms that will empower young people and women to actively participate in the political process.
“His leadership will ensure that these groups are not only included but are given a seat at the decision-making table,” the group’s leader stressed.
