The Ondo State Government has warned fuel marketers against deliberately shutting down filling stations to create artificial scarcity in the state.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Jaiyeola Alabi on Saturday.
The government expressed concern over reports that some marketers were attempting to disrupt economic activities by withholding fuel despite having supplies in stock.
“The Ondo State Government has observed with concern that some fuel marketers are attempting to sabotage the economic activities of the state by deliberately shutting down their filling stations despite having fuel in stock,” Alabi said.
He clarified that while the government does not oppose marketers selling fuel at prevailing market prices, it would not tolerate hoarding or deliberate closures aimed at creating panic.
Such actions, he warned, could trigger panic buying and disrupt economic activities across the state.
The commissioner urged marketers to refrain from practices capable of creating artificial scarcity, adding: “Any filling station found culpable of this offence will be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law.”
Alabi stressed that the government remains committed to ensuring a stable fuel supply in the state while protecting residents and businesses from unnecessary disruption.
