Two candidates yesterday emerged to contest the coming Osun State government election slated for July 16, 2022.

They are senator Ademola Adeleke and Prince Dotun Babayemi. They emerged following the holding of two parallel primaries in one of the election.

The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who was the Chairman of the Osun Governorship primary, said Adeleke scored 1887 votes, while his closet rival Sanya Omirin scored four votes while Dele Adeleke scored 1, Fatai Akinbade nil, Dotun Babayemi nil and Akin Ogunbiyi nil.

He said a total of 1916 votes were cast, while 24 were invalid votes.

Ewhrudjakpo said, ” By the power conferred on me as the Chief Returning Officer of this gubernatorial primary, we hereby collectively declared Adeleke Ademola Jackson as the winner of this gubernatorial primary for 2022 governorship election in Osun.”

He urged all other aspirants to join hands with Adeleke to win the July 16 governorship election in the state.

He however said that there was no parallel congress in the state, adding that any other congress apart from the one he supervised would not be recognised by the national headquarters of the party.

” The king is here and the crown is here. This is the authentic congress and any other one conducted in any other place will not be recognised”, he said.

In his acceptance speech, Adeleke said there is no victor, no vanquished in the primary.

According to him, ” We are all winners. Let’s work together to rescue people of the state from the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

” By God’s grace, PDP will win July 16 governrship election by a landslide to claim our stolen mandate.

” Our manifesto will be released in few days time”, he said.

Meanwhile, Prince Dotun Babayemi has also emerged as the governorship candidate for the Wale Ojo led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osun State.

Announcing the result at the WOCDIF center, Osogbo, the Chief Returning Officer, Adelani Ajanaku said Babayemi polled 1781 votes to emerge the winner.

Ajanaku said that the number of accredited voters was 1907, void votes 27 while valid votes was1880.

He gave the breakdown of the vote as follows: Sanya Omirin 16, Akin Ogunbiyi 23, Fatai Akinbade 28, Dele Adeleke 32, and Dotun Babayemi 1781.

In his acceptance speech, Babayemi called on all PDP members to collectively face the task of winning the governorship election scheduled for July 16.

He said, “The task ahead is humongous but not insurmountable. All hands must therefore be on deck to defeat the ruling-All Progressives Congress in the state with a view to ending the current decay pervading the nooks and crannies of our dear state.

“The current maladministration of the APC in the state must come to an end if indeed we are desirous of stalling the current spate of visible infrastructural decay across the state.”
