Ekiti kidnapped victims regain freedom

Four persons abducted in Irele-Ekiti, Ajoni local Council Development Area, (LCDA) have regained their freedom.

A source from the community said the victims were released on Tuesday evening in Iyemero, a boarder town within Ekiti and Kwara State .

Though, it was not cleared if the victims paid ransom, but the kidnappers had earlier demanded for N10million naira as ransom for the victims to regain their freedom.

The source added that the victims, who are residents of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital are currently in a private health facility in the state, receiving treatment.

Confirming the release of the victims, the Commandant of Amotekun Corps, Ekiti State, Brig. Joe Komolafe (rtd) said they were rescued by the corps who worked round the clock to secure their release.

On whether of the victims paid ransom, the Amotekun boss said he was not aware if ransom was paid.

The corps was not aware of any discussion between the kidnappers and the family of the victims,”he added.

He said the surveillance team of the Corps really worked hard to secure the freedom of the victims without any hitch or injury, immediately the news of the abduction was communicated to their office on Sunday night.

It would be recalled that gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Sunday abducted four travellers in Irele-Ekiti, Ajoni Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ekiti state.

According to sources in the community, the victims were  heading to Ibadan, after attending an event in Kogi State.

Reports had it that seven gun-wielding men waylaid them about 11am between Irele-Ekiti and Oke-Ako axis of Ekiti State and whisked them away.

Speaking on the matter,  a community leader in Irele-Ekiti, Chief Kehinde Abejide, who confirmed the abduction, lamented the incessant attacks by gunmen in the area, calling on the government to beef up security in the axis.

Abejide, who is the Akogun of Ikere-Ekiti, urged the new Governor of the state, Biodun Oyebanji to impress it on the military authority to provide army outpost to safeguard the area against the rampaging gunmen.
