As the nation celebrate International Women’s Day, empowerment has been described as a tool of encouraging women to gain knowledge, skills and attitude that will help them overcome all forms of constraints in the society.
A woman activist, Mrs Adetutu Olaleye gave the description in an interview with The Hope.
According to her, if women are empowered, it will give them adequate opportunities to harness their God -given potentials.
To her, women empowerment is not just a process of acquiring power for women, but arousing the already existing power in them for effective participation in the society.
She posited that women empowerment is to consciously raise the economic, social, political, educational and spiritual strength of women hence the need for all and sundry to make it a priority.
She advised women not to be idle but find something doing no matter how small.”Women must come out of their shell to limelight, our future is in our hands, gone are the days when women’s jobs are limited to the kitchens”.
Charging women to properly take care of their children, husbands , and make their marriage work, she maintained that they should be humble ,persevere, and equally be a role model whom their children can emulate.
Olaleye commended the wife of Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu for her passion for women and the girl-child in the state, saying that all her various programmes in terms of empowering this set of people is a welcome development.
While saying that all women in the position of authorities should emulate this gesture of Arabinrin Akeredolu, she harped on the need for all hands to be on deck in ensuring women empowerment in the society.
