Erelu Fayemi calls for improved education standard

The wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi has said that all hands must be on deck to improve the standard of education in the country.

She advised that parents, governments, students and private organizations have to join hands together to save the decline of education standard and infrastructural deficit in the educational institutions in the country.

Mrs Fayemi made the remarks at Abeokuta Girls Grammar School (AGGS) in Ogun State her alma mater where she went to celebrate 40th year reunion with her mates of 1978.

Speaking with newsmen on her view about the reunion, Erelu Bisi said:

“I give God all the glory for preserving our lives for all these years.  Looking back, I owe all that I am today to the school, to the sound education it provided, to the guidance of our teachers, to the discipline they provided and the spirit of self reliance.

” However, l am a bit concerned that there are a lot of infrastructural issues that ought to be addressed that have not been done in the school. The structures are exactly as we have left them 40 years ago, my set  and other sets will continue to put our heads together to ensure that this girls’ school continue to be the best in this area, ” she emphasised.

Mrs. Fayemi also called on all stakeholders in the education sector in the country to see the need to raise the standard of education and provide adequate teaching facilities.

Earlier, their English and Literature teacher in 1978, Mr. Sotonwa, had counseled the Class of 78 to ensure that they do not allow their children, who are the future generation forget their roots. He emphasized the need for them to teach the children  their mother’s tongue and cited how training him in that way has helped him in all his career through the years.

The class of ’78 has series of activities and programmes lined up for the reunion which included an early morning awareness walk, tour of facilities of the school, handing over of the Chemistry Laboratory to School Authority by the National President and a Symposium for the teachers tagged:  “The 21st Century Teachers and the Modern Universal Technical” among others.
