…11,700 teachers to benefit from initiative
The Federal Ministry of Education has reaffirmed its commitment to equipping Nigerian teachers with future-ready digital skills following the signing of the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the nationwide implementation of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Teacher Capacity Development Programme across all Federal Unity Colleges.
The agreement, signed through the Ministry’s Education Support Services Department in partnership with ICEDT Consult Limited, marks a major step in the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen teacher capacity, promote innovation in classroom practice and accelerate the digital transformation of Nigeria’s education sector in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The initiative is expected to directly benefit about 11,700 teachers across Federal Unity Colleges and positively impact thousands of students through improved classroom practice, increased digital innovation and the responsible application of Artificial Intelligence in teaching and learning.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Abuja, the Director of the Education Support Services Department, Mr. Gabriel Amudipe, described the initiative as a strategic investment in teacher professional development and the future of education in Nigeria. Nigerian Politics Coverage.
He commended ICEDT Consult Limited for its structured and collaborative approach to teacher capacity development, particularly its zonal implementation strategy for the nationwide rollout, which he said would enhance coordination, monitoring, and quality assurance.
Amudipe stressed that the standards achieved during the pilot phase, which informed the Ministry’s decision to expand the programme nationwide, must be maintained throughout implementation.
He also urged Ministry officials assigned to supervise the programme to discharge their responsibilities diligently while ensuring strict compliance with the provisions of the Terms of Reference.
