It was an exciting moment in the presence of God as members of First Baptist Church, Akure celebrated their Founder’s day with glamour.
The church over the years stood firm on the tenet of Jesus Christ as members dressed in uniform and other attires to celebrate God’s faithfulness.
The Pastor in charge of the church, Rev. Olumuyiwa Ige, said that it was a great day in the history of First Baptist Church, Akure because the Lord has been so good to them in every way.”The church is 70 years old, we are grateful to God who has kept his church all these years”.
According to him, it is not just a celebration alone but the commencement of building a “great house for the great God” so as to have a new, befitting and spacious church building.
“First Baptist Church is the mother and grandmother of nearly all Baptist Churches in Akure and environs. As the mother, we need a house that befits its status in this modern day.
“The church also serves as the State’s church because the Government do use the auditorium for special programmes, prayers and thanksgiving services”.
The Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, rejoiced with the church for the successful celebration of the 70th anniversary of the church, considering the journey so far.
He said that years back when the church was cited ,the environment was dreaded but when the church came through the help of Holy Spirit, the whole story changed completely.
While praying that in another 70 years, the church would have grown bigger than this, he hoped that the church moved to a bigger Cathedral.
Representing the Governor of Ondo State, Rev Enoch Adeleke congratulated the church and wished them a happy celebration. He said the church has played a significant role by praying for the state and his administration.
The Governor urged the church to continue in giving spiritual food to members and equally thanked them for voting him and supporting his government.
The Governor commended the church for the contribution they are making to the Akure community.
Rev Dr. Isreal Adelani Akanji, the President of Nigeria Baptist Convention, in his exhortation to the congregation on the topic, “A Double Portion” , encouraged them not to loose sight of the promise of God.
According to him, Christians ought to be conscious of the importance of the double portion which cannot be hidden.
He said when God has done something for a Christian it will be evident to all as it would be amazing to all human races.
Akanji, posited that God can always do more for us no matter the great things he has done for us in the past.
He encouraged Christians to always ask for a double portion, saying this would bring joy and upliftment even when failure steers towards them.
He said that as they were celebrating their 70th Anniversary of a new season, new things would come irrespective of the economic situation in the country.
He urged Christians to continue sowing towards the work of God particularly the sacrifice to enhance the gospel.
He appealed to Christians to always give sacrificially to God and in return he will bless them, urging them to serve him with all their might and strength.
Dignitaries at the event included, Representative of Ondo State Governor, Rev Enoch Adeleke, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, representative of the Deputy Senate leader, Hon Denis Fadairo among others.
