By Adebola Isimijola, Lagos

Four suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity cult group have been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), with a locally made Beretta pistol and a 9mm live ammunition recovered during the operation in Mushin.

The suspects are Irawo Moshod, Abayomi James, 29, Farouq Bankole, 28, and Steven Sunday, 19.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebesi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, August 10, 2026, saying the arrests followed credible intelligence on the activities of cult groups in Mushin.

According to Adebesi, operatives of the VCRU first arrested Moshod, who allegedly admitted to being a former chairman of the Aiye Confraternity cult group.

She said the suspect made useful disclosures about the activities of the group, including his alleged involvement in several killings in Mushin and other parts of Lagos State.

Acting on information allegedly provided by Moshod, the operatives proceeded to Idi-Oro, Mushin, where they recovered one locally made Beretta pistol and one 9mm live ammunition.

The police spokesperson said three other suspected members of the group — James, Bankole and Sunday — were subsequently arrested at Aganran by Ojuwoye.

She said the three suspects allegedly admitted to being members of the Aiye Confraternity and disclosed that the recovered firearm was obtained from one Rilwan, whom they identified as the number one member of the group.

Adebesi said the suspects were in police custody and assisting with investigations, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the group.

Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, commended the VCRU operatives for their proactive and intelligence-driven approach to disrupting cult-related criminal activities in the state.

Fatai reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety and security of residents, warning cultists and other criminal elements to desist from their activities or face the full weight of the law.

The command also urged residents to report suspicious activities through its emergency lines for prompt police response.
