Ahead of the April 18 local government election in Ondo State, the State Independent Electoral Commission, SIEC, will next week Tuesday display the list of validated candidates for chairmanship and councillorship positions in the election.

This is just as the commission disclosed that 13 political parties candidates were screened for the election.

The ODIEC Chairman, Prof. Yomi Dinakin declared  this yesterday during a statutory meeting with stakeholders in Akure, the State capital

The 13 political parties screened for the election according to Dinakin are: Accord Party, African Action Congress, Action Alliance, African Democratic Congress, Abundance Nigeria Renewal Party, All Progressives Congress and All Progressive Grand Alliance.

Others are Mega Party of Nigeria. Progressives Peoples Alliance, Social Democratic Party, Young Progressive Party and Youth Party

According to Dinakin, 18 political parties collected forms to participate in the coming elections but 13 submitted forms and screened for the election.

According to him, 31 parties indicated interest after the rolling out of timetable for the election by the commission to participate in the election.

The ODIEC boss explained that the commission would continue to relate with the 31 political parties despite the de-registration of some  political parties by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, so as to be on safer side.

He however said that based on the instruction by the INEC that only registered parties should participate in the election,  the SIEC had submitted letter before the state Attorney- General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Kola Olawoye SAN, seeking his legal advice and the interpretation of INEC’s position.
