A worrisome trend is being observed currently. It is of some fathers that turned their daughters to sex objects.

With the episode going on in our neighbourhood, we could not still understand why a man would be hitting on his daughter.

When the daughter sought an asylum away from home, we wondered why. When the answer came, it boggled our minds and stunned everyone.

This is the case of Roseline who prefers to live anywhere else than her father’s house.

She is a 15 year-old-girl who is as exquisite as a flower and as pretty as a_ picture. She looks like an angel. Words would be pouring over themselves in eagerness to describe her beauty should one continue to talk about her.

With her looks, one would expect her to be pampered and spoiled beyond measure. However, the reverse is the case. Her mother died after giving birth to her and left her to the mercy of a stern father and a wicked stepmother.

She is a secondary school leaver and she works as an attendant at a gas store close to their house.

Her father is a no nonsense man who keeps a close watch on her movements. Whenever she stayed outside for too long, he would be calling her to Know her whereabouts. .

On such occasions, he would lock the door and beat her black and blue when she returned. We all believed that the man was being overly protective because of the girl’s beauty, little did we know that it was more sordid than we thought.

The cat was soon let out of the bag by an incident. Her employer who own the gas store was sick and unable to come to the store for some weeks.

When he came and did reconciliation of

the proceeds and the amount of gas remaining, he saw red. A sum of N30000 was missing from the small business.

Roseline was weeping as her employer confronted her “where is my money? If you don’t want trouble, quietly produce my money and this ugly incident will just die naturally. Did you give the money to your boyfriend? “

She had no coherent explanation to give her boss instead, she was weeping and begging that she would pay back the money.

Her boss did not heed her entreaties and he got her arrested.

At the police station, she began to talk. She confessed that her father took the money from her. It was hard to believe. Why would a father do that, knowing that it was his daughter he would be implicating?

The policemen obviously had no time for nonsense. Neighbours that went to the police station claimed that they did not see any sign of beating on the girl, so it must mean that she did not make the confessional statement under duress.

Residents were shocked at the information. Little did we know that it was just a tip of an iceberg.

When the police detained the father and released the girl, a more shocking admission became exposed. She began to cry that the stepmother and her father would finally kill her.

She narrated to the police how her father would put his finger in her vagina, in order to determine if she had been with a man. She also claimed that he would press her breast and ask her if any man had been doing that to her too.

At the end of the brouhaha as the police

took the father to task over his unwholesome act, he maintained that he was training his daughter. He complained that girls were difficult to raise, as he had faced so many problems since the girl’s mother died and was left with the daunting task of bringing her up alone. The police felt that the father could not be trusted with the care of a girl child and therefore withdrew her from her father and } transferred her care to the state government. Our neighbourhood is tingling with the news of such goings-on. It is bizarre. The father was forced to pay the money he forcefully took from his daughter.

The man is currently being ostracized by other residents as no one wants to associate with him.

His landlady has also given him a quit notice. She claimed that it was to rid and cleanse her house of the abomination he had committed.
