Man remanded for stabbing co-tenant

For stabbing his co-tenant with knife, a 23-year old man, Sodiq Okunola, has been remanded by an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court.
Okunola, who is facing a two-count charge of stabbing and biting, pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
The accused person allegedly committed the offence on January 24, 2021 around 08:30am at Zone D2, Fiwasaye community in Osogbo.
The Prosecutor, Rasaq Olayiwola, told the court that the accused person unlawfully caused grievous harm to one Dauda Abdulgafar, by using knife to stab him on his left hand and biting him on his chest.
He also alleged that the accused person deliberately used the knife to inflict deep cut on the victim’s left hand, saying the complainant is currently receiving treatment in LUATECH hospital.
According to the prosecutor, the victim suspected Dauda of stealing some property, which they reported to their landlord.
He further explained that in the process of their meeting with the landlord, the accused person got furious and stabbed Dauda on his left hand.
The offence committed was contrary to and punishable under section 335 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. 2 Osun State Laws Nigeria 2002.
Defense counsel, Okobe Najite, prayed the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would stand his trial.
The Prosecutor, opposed the bail application due to the victim’s health condition said to be in LUATECH hospital.
Magistrate Ishola Omishade in his ruling ordered the accused to be remanded at Ilesa Correctional Centre.
He adjourned the case till February 3, 2021 for further hearing.
