FUTA student docked over N1.6m fraud

A 20-year-old student of the Federal University of Technology Akure, (FUTA), Bamgbose Tejumola has been dragged before an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defrauding one Ayodele Gbogi, of N1. 6 million .
The accused person who is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing, pleaded not guilty to the allegations leveled against him.
He allegedly committed the offence in June, 2020 Akure in the Akure Magisterial District.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Adesegun told the court that the accused person unlawfully defrauded and obtained N1. 6 million from one Ayodele Gbogi.
He also alleged that the accused person obtained the same amount from the complainant, under the pretence to invest the money in an online business, which he knew to be false.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant, received a threat message from the accused, saying he was not going to refund the money.
He added that the accused person haD been defrauding other people same way.
The offences contravened section 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State Nigeria 2006.
Defense counsel, W. O Aladedutire prayed the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would stand his trial.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Mayomi Olanipekun, in his ruling granted the accused person bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He thereafter adjourned the case till February 9, 2021 for further hearing.
