The war against narcotics is yielding dividends as men of the Nigeria Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have impounded Indian hemp estimated at millions of naira in a forest reserve at Ogbese, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The haul is coming few days after the NDLEA also seized cocaine worth N28billion from a hair stylist and four others at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, in Lagos.
The Hope correspondent gathered that a suspect has been arrested with the seizure while others are on the run following a tip off from undercover agents.
It was gathered that after receiving the tip off, the NDLEA men went to the Ogbese forest where they saw three young men with already arranged 23 bags of Indian hemp, worth millions of Naira.
The state Commander of NDLEA, Mr Haruna Gagara who spoke with The Hope on the arrest said “when the suspects sighted our men in the forest, they took to their heels, but one of them, Usman, was arrested.
“Our men intercepted over 340 kg of Indian hemp belonging to the suspects in the thick forest
At the time the three young men saw us, they knew that they were not safe. We discovered that the suspects were in the thick forest performing such act as we moved in based on the information given to us.
Gagara advised youths in the state to keep away from illegal activities, saying his command is ready to combat drug barons headlong.
The new chairman/Chief Executive, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), had recently ordered men of the agency to dismantle drug trafficking cartels across the country.
