NFF to unveil Éric Chelle as Super Eagles Head Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will officially present Mr Éric Sékou Chelle as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles on Monday.

The unveiling will take place at the Media Conference Room of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja at 11 am.

Chelle’s appointment, approved by the NFF Executive Committee on Tuesday following a recommendation by the Technical and Development Committee, marks a new chapter for the national team.

The 47-year-old Franco-Malian, who previously led Mali’s Aiglons to the brink of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals, is tasked with steering the Super Eagles through the remainder of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. Speaking on the appointment, NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau expressed confidence in Chelle’s capabilities.

“Coach Chelle embodies the fresh energy, new thinking, and positive attitude we desire for the Super Eagles. We appeal to Nigerians to support him, as we believe he has the qualities to achieve success,” Gusau stated. “The NFF will provide him with all the support needed to excel.”

At the unveiling, the NFF will also announce Chelle’s backroom staff. The team will first focus on preparing the Super Eagles B for next month’s African Nations Championship in East Africa before turning their attention to the World Cup qualifiers, beginning with matches against Rwanda (away) and Zimbabwe (home) in March.

Chelle joins the Super Eagles after leaving Algerian club MC Oran, where he previously coached the 1989 African Champions’ Cup finalists.
