ODHA, Justice Ministry partner on accessible justice

As part of efforts to make justice accessible to the populace, the Ondo State House of Assembly is set to partner the State Ministry of Justice.

The Speaker,  Bamidele Oleyelogun gave this indication while playing host to the Commissioner for Justice, Sir Charles Titiloye, in his office in Akure.

The Commissioner led a team of legal luminaries from the State Law Commission, to present copies of newly published laws to the State House of Assembly.

The newly published laws include the Ondo State Violence Against Person Prohibition Law, 2021, Ondo State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps Law 2020, Ondo State Child Rights Law 2007 and he Ondo State Livestock Rearing and Grazing Regulation and Ranchers Establishment Law 2021.

While receiving the published copies of the law,   Oleyelogun noted that the laws were products of the current assembly, an indication that the House of Assembly under his watch was performing.

He thanked the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for his support in making positive things happen during his time.

The Speaker who equally commended the Law Commission staff for their hard work stressed the need to review the extant laws of the state in line with contemporary global practices.

Oleyelogun also called on the Justice ministry to ensure that copies of the published laws get to schools and colleges as well as Local Governments which form the fulcrum at the grassroots.

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Justice, Sir Charles Titiloye, noted that laws of the state were last reviewed in  2006.

He commended Governor Akeredolu for his support which had yielded the publication of the new laws.

Titiloye pledged a periodic review and publication of the state laws towards making them accessible to the people.

While soliciting the support of the House in passing life impacting laws, the Commissioner called on relevant stakeholders to approach the Law Commission to get copies of the published laws.

Also speaking, the lawmaker representing Akure South constituency 2, Sunday Olajide called on the Justice ministry to place all gazetted laws of the state online towards making them accessible to the people.

He noted that this would further accelerate quick dispensation of Justice.
