Ogunsua palace debunks allegations by self-styled monarch

By Michael Ofulue, Osogbo

The Ogunsua Palace Media Committee has debunked a series of malicious allegations made by one Mr. Adeyinka Obawale, who falsely parades himself under the self-styled title of Oba Adeyinka Adeshina Obawale, the “Oluoje of Ojenpetu.”

In a statement issued on behalf of the Chairman of the Ogunsua Palace in Modakeke, Chief Kola Olabisi, on Sunday in Osogbo, the committee described Mr. Obawale’s claims as “baseless, fabricated, and politically motivated.”

According to the palace, Mr. Obawale recently accused the Ogunsua of Modakeke, His Royal Majesty, Oba Joseph Olu Toriola Ajibise Ogo I, alongside some respected community leaders, of orchestrating a violent attack on him and his associates.

“We wish to state in the strongest terms that these claims are entirely false, baseless, and fabricated. The accusation of attempted assassination and the destruction of property is a malicious narrative intended to smear the reputation of our peace-loving and law-abiding monarch,” the statement read.

The palace alleged that Mr. Obawale, who reportedly relocated from a displaced community in Gadumo, Kogi State, is “deliberately peddling falsehoods in a desperate attempt to gain attention and legitimacy.”

“His claims should be dismissed as a poorly orchestrated attempt to discredit the integrity of our revered traditional institution. Our monarch, Oba Joseph Olu Toriola, is a man of impeccable character, deeply knowledgeable in traditional leadership, and respectful of the rule of law. He is well aware that no individual, regardless of status, has the right to take the law into their own hands—and he has never done so,” the statement added.

While the committee noted that the allegations were laughable, it explained that a response was necessary because “silence in the face of persistent falsehoods can mislead the uninformed into mistaking fiction for fact.”

The palace emphasised that maintaining law and order is the responsibility of law enforcement agencies, not traditional rulers, and wondered why Mr. Obawale was blaming the Ogunsua and other community members for his personal issues with security agencies.

“The self-acclaimed ‘Oluoje of Ojenpetu’ should understand that he cannot be used as a pawn in any grand scheme to malign our monarch or destabilise our community. His ill-conceived mission to import conflict into Modakeke has failed and will continue to fail,” it stated.

The palace also dismissed Mr. Obawale’s claim that the Ogunsua discriminates against Fulani people as ‘ridiculous.

“This is a lie from the pit of hell. The Modakeke community has always been a welcoming home to all Nigerians, regardless of ethnicity or background. What we will not tolerate, however, is the harbouring of criminal elements or enemies of peace,” the statement declared.

It reiterated that the monarch and community leaders remain committed to peace and security in Modakeke, working in alignment with local, state, and federal security efforts.

The palace called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the National Security Adviser to investigate the matter thoroughly.

“Meanwhile, our Kabiyesi has instructed his legal team to take appropriate action against Mr. Obawale, whose sole mission appears to be the defamation of a respected royal father.” It explained
