The Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has reiterated its  commitment to creating enabling environments that promote quality education, transformation, innovation, science, technology, and academic excellence, saying that it would continue to support programmes and initiatives that equip students with the skills and competencies required to thrive in an increasingly competitive global environment.

This was made known by the Commissioner, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, while speaking at the grand finale of Ondo State Digital Quiz Competition held in Akure on Thursday.

The competition, which was organised by the ministry in partnership with Quickens Computer Limited, drew participants from five zones spread across the three senatorial districts of the state.

According to the commissioner, the digital quiz competition was conceived to promote digital literacy, stimulate academic excellence, encourage healthy competition among schools and prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.

Ajibefun expressed his delight at the progress of the competition and its increased participation in the last four years, describing it as a reflection of colIective commitment to improving educational outcomes and fostering a culture of excellence in schools across the state.

“The world is rapidly evolving into a digital society where knowledge, innovation and technological skills have become indispensable tools for national development.

“As a government, we recognise that the future belongs to individuals who can effectively leverage technology to solve problems, create opportunities and contribute meaningfully to society,” he said.

Ajibefun lauded the Quickens Computer Limited, parents, teachers and others who contributed to the programme, admonishing the participants to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Akindele Ige, who was represented by Mrs Olufunke Ademuyiwa, described the contest as a platform for nurturing critical thinking, creativity, innovation and digital literacy among our learners.

He added that it reflects the Ondo State Government’s commitment to strengthening education and preparing learners for the future.

His words, “Today’s event celebrates the achievements of our young learners and reflects our commitment to promoting academic excellence, innovation, and digital learning in our schools.

“As Nelson Mandela aptly observed, education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.

“Through initiatives such as this, we are equipping our young people with the skills and values required to succeed in a technology-driven world.”

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Quickens Computer Limited, Mr Gideon Omoregha, thanked the Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for the privilege to organise the competition which was taking place for the fourth time.

He disclosed that students who participated in previous editions of the contest later performed excellently at the senior school certificate examination and the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME).
