The Ondo State Government has commenced moves to tackle the flooding situation in Ilaje Local Government area with the deployment of amphibious machines to waterways across the area.
The Technical Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Erosion Control and Flood-related Matters, Elisha Ebijimi, disclosed this to THE HOPE while giving an update on the situation.
He said the governor had directed the immediate deployment of all amphibious machines to waterways in Ilaje to open up the channels and ease the impact of the flooding.
According to him, the intervention would begin on Monday, August 3, 2026, with priority given to clearing the waterways before attention would be shifted to affected communities.
“By the special grace of God, our able Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has already directed us to deploy all our amphibious machines back to all our waterways in Ilaje.
“By Monday, we are going to deploy all the amphibious machines to all our waterways. We are not here to park any churning. We are going to face our waterways because all our waterways are already full, so we need to discharge our waterways before we come back to the communities,” he said.
Ebijimi confirmed that the flooding had caused significant losses in some communities, adding that officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were expected to visit Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Government areas on Monday for an assessment.
