Ondo wins 2024 BESS competition

By Saheed Ibrahim

Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (ODSUBEB) team has emerged the overall best team in the just-concluded Basic Education Sports (BESS) Competition in Abuja.
According to the final medals table released at the end of the competition, the Ondo team garnered a total of 31 medals to beat Akwa Ibom State, which secured 17 medals to claim the second position.
Analysis of the Ondo team’s medals revealed that the team won nine gold medals, thirteen silver medals and nine bronze medals.
Speaking on the achievement, ODSUBEB Chairman, Victor Olabimtan, commended the team handlers for a job well done.
Olabimtan attributed the success to the State government’s support, which has enabled ODSUBEB to pay its UBEC matching grants promptly.
“This has enabled the Board to improve infrastructure in public primary schools across the state, including the distribution of modern sporting facilities,” Olabimtan said.
He noted that the current outstanding performance by the Ondo Team was not a fluke, as they had earlier emerged first at the South West Regional BESS Competition in Ado Ekiti.
As a form of appreciation for their outstanding performance, the Board plans to give the team and their handlers a heroic welcome next week.
