The Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Owena Press Limited, publishers of The Hope titles, Mr. Kayode Fasua, has been honoured with the Most Outstanding Media Executive Award, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to media advancement in Ondo State.
The award was presented to him by Focus Magazine during the fifth edition of the Magazine’s Hall of Fame Award and Lecture in Akure.
The ceremony drew distinguished personalities and media professionals who were celebrated for excellence, dedication and service to society.
Other award recipients include Oba Olugbenga Aluko, the Olojoda-elect; ACP Akinroye Kabiru Adesina, Area Commander of Akure Urban; High Chief (DSP) Clement Adeniyi (PSC); Dr. Thomas-Wilson Ikubese; Very Rev’d John Kolawole; Chief David Adanlawo; Ven. Sup. Evang. Michael O. Lawanson; Pastor Michael Akinwumi; Iyiade Oluseye; Prophet Timothy Oloye, among others.
In his welcome address, the Publisher of Focus Magazine, Ayodele Ologunola, described the event as an occasion to honour individuals whose professionalism and commitment have made significant impacts on their communities.
He lauded the accomplishments recorded across various sectors in the past year, noting that the honourees’ achievements would serve as inspiration for future generations.
“Today, we celebrate not just individual success, but the spirit of dedication and excellence that each of our awardees embodies.
“Your achievements serve as a beacon, illuminating the path for future generations. Your legacy is a testament to the power of hard work, resilience, and vision,” he said.
Delivering the keynote lecture titled “Addressing the Root Causes of Insecurity, Poverty, Unemployment and Corruption in Nigeria,” guest lecturer, Dr. Philip Alabi described the issues as interlinked challenges hindering national growth.
He stressed that insecurity in Nigeria has become multidimensional, driven by insurgency, banditry, kidnappings, herder–farmer clashes and rising urban crime.
Dr. Alabi further highlighted National Bureau of Statistics data showing that over 40 percent of Nigerians live below the poverty line, exacerbated by inadequate access to education, healthcare, clean water and economic opportunities.
He called for a comprehensive educational overhaul, a national ethical reorientation campaign, increased infrastructure investment and strengthened social protection systems.
He urged citizens, especially youths, civil society, the private sector and the media to actively contribute to national renewal.
Reacting to the honour, Fasua commended the organisers and emphasised the critical role of the media in promoting peace and unity.
He affirmed that security agencies and other stakeholders in the country remain committed to safeguarding lives and property, going by the proactive moves from President Bola Tinubu.
Describing the award as a collective achievement, he said, “This award is for all of us at The Hope Newspaper. We work together, toil together and pursue the growth of the organisation together.”
Fasua also highlighted key achievements under his leadership, including the launch of The Hope Magazine, the introduction of a digital daily publication with over 50,000 daily viewers, and strategic plans for 2026.
Among upcoming initiatives, he added, is the plan to establish The Hope Institute of Journalism, to equip journalists with advanced professional skills.
He commended journalists across Ondo State for upholding ethical standards and encouraged them to remain committed to societal progress.
