Doctors at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Owo, Ondo State, have said they are ready to join the nationwide strike declared by the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, over unmet demands.
The group called on the Federal Government to act urgently to prevent a collapse of healthcare services in the country.
The strike, scheduled to begin on Monday, comes after the government failed to implement a Memorandum of Understanding signed with resident doctors in November 2025.
In a statement, the Chairman of the ARD-FMC, Owo chapter, Dada Tosin, said the decision followed an emergency meeting on Friday to discuss the national body’s directive.
The association noted that NARD had given the government a four-week deadline to meet its demands, but the period lapsed without “meaningful compliance.”
The HOPE reports that key reasons for the industrial action include poor welfare conditions, unpaid salary arrears, training challenges, and delayed professional allowances.
Tosin said the strike will be total and will only end once the nine minimum demands are fully addressed, including reinstatement of sacked doctors at FTH Lokoja and payment of arrears ranging from three to nine months.
The Owo NARD chapter reaffirmed its solidarity with NARD and urged the Federal Government to intervene promptly to protect healthcare delivery and the welfare of medical professionals nationwide.
