PDP primaries: Dankwambo solicits Ondo delegates’ support

As presidential aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) indicate interests to secure the party’s ticket ahead of the 2019 general elections, Governor of Gombe State, Dr. Ibrahim Dankwambo has visited Ondo State to solicit the support of the party’s delegates in the Southwest zone of the country.

The Governor, who announced his aspiration to pick the party’s ticket sought for the support of the statutory delegates of the party in the state and assured to give his best to serve the country.

Describing himself as “a man who has better understanding of the country’s challenges ,” Dankwambo said that as an accountant and economist, he promised to give his best in the area of the nation’s finances.

He noted insecurity and poor economy as two major challenges facing the country, saying that if the challenges are solved, Nigeria will be a great country.

“On security issue which l understand very well and l served my people in this area without being attacked as a governor,”he said.

The governor, who also described himself as a qualified person to be the presidential candidate of the party, told the delegates of the party to ensure the best party’s presidential candidate who can proffer solution through policy to problem is picked at the party’s primaries.

He added that if a preferred candidate over him is picked, he assured his give support to the person to win the election.

He explained that over the years, the PDP had been in power and a lot of leaders and institutions have been built, which today gives the party advantage to have qualified people vying for public offices under the party.

“We build leaders. We are trained to call white as white and black as black.

“In Nigeria, l’m one of the beneficiaries of the trend in PDP.

“l worked with the former Presidents Olusegun Obadanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, over this period and l have accumulated experience on how to formulate policy,” he said.

Dankwambo urged youths to rise to the  responsibilities of leadership and make themselves strong to move the country forward.

The governor affirmed that the country has given him every opportunity to serve the country and urged the youths in the party to draw template for the party and the country to move forward.

Responding, the State Chairman of the party, Engr. Clement Faboyede, expressed disappointment in some defected lawmakers at the National Assembly under the platform of the party to other political parties, advising Dankwambo not to follow suit.

While assuring the support of the party in the state for Dankwambo’s ambition, Faboyede said no other party’s aspirants have visited the PDP in the state to indicate their interests.

Those who attended the event include former Nigerian Ambassador to Greece, Prof. Olu Agbi; the party’s former Governorship running mate, John Olu-Mafo and former Chief of Staff to Governor Olusegun Mimiko, Dr. Kola Ademujimi, among other elders state council of the party.
