Police arrest rapist, armed robbers in Ifon

Detectives attached to Ondo State Police Command, Ifon Division have arrested a middle-aged-man Sunday Asaba who allegedly raped a 60-years-old woman at Ifon in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Police sources said the suspect, who is already a guest at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Akure was nabbed by the detectives who acted on information.
The rapist was alleged to have forced himself into the apartment of the victim and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her having overpowered her.
The Hope Metro learnt that the suspect’s brother who saw him while committing the illicit act alerted the police and he was subsequently arrested.
During interrogation, the armed robber and rapist confessed to the alleged offence.
The police said he would be charged to court soon after investigation is concluded.
In a related development, some gang of armed bandits have invaded into a house along Custom road in Akure and allegedly raped and robbed a woman at gunpoint.
The hoodlums who reportedly raped the victim to a state of coma, were said to have made away with cash and other valuable items.
According to the police, the armed robbers made away with Tecno Camon 12 phone valued at N54, 000, Tecno phone valued at N15, 000 and two million naira cash properties of the victims
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Mr Bolaji Salami, who confirmed the arrest of the rapist cum armed robber hinted that he would soon be arraigned in court for rape offence.
He also confirmed the arrest of one Rasheed Oke who allegedly conspired to rob and rape a victim during armed robbery attack along Custom road in Akure where he and his gang also carted away valuables including cash at gunpoint.
Salami who warned criminal elements to have a rethink or be ready to face the full weight of the law, said the two suspects would also appear in court soon for prosecution,
He commended the efforts of his men for being proactive and also appreciated the general public for their timely information that assisted in the arrest of the criminal.
