‘Rainfall ‘ll crash garri price’

The continuous increase in the volume of rainfall will make uprooting of cassava tuber easier thereby reducing the cost of cassava flakes in the market.
The Chairman, Ondo state Farmers Congress, Mr Abayomi Monilari stated this while speaking with The Hope in a telephone chat in Akure.
He attributed the high cost of the cassava flakes to production cost as a result of hard weather condition which he said had affected the supply of the commodity in the market.
He explained that farmers had to pay labourers more to uproot the cassava tubers by engaging more people.
” Every product is always affected by the forces of demand and supply and where the demand is more than the supply definitely such a product would cost higher because only few farmers can pay for labour to get their cassava uprooted during hash weather condition,” he explained.
He said people will buy it cheaper now because rain has started falling and the ground is soft for easy harvesting of cassava.
While noting the importance of a cassava harvester for easy operation, Monilari said it is easier to operate during the rainy season, but very expensive for farmers to access.
