Recruit Peace Corps into Amotekun

The Acting State Commandant of Peace Corps in Ondo State, Patriotic Kayode James Poroye, has requested that his members be incorporated into the Amotekun security network.

Poroye, who spoke with The Hope Metro in an interview at the weekend in Akure, said the vision and mission of Peace Corps is to train Nigerian youths on leadership roles.

According to him, Peace Corps has been in existence since 1998 and have offices across all the states of the country.

He stressed that it would be better to inject those who have already been trained for various leadership positions with proven integrity and also have acquired knowledge in the security of lives and property of citizens.

His words,” I was invited to the public hearing at the state House of Assembly, where I made our position of being part of Amotekun known, so we can jointly tackle issues bordering on insecurity in the South west zone.

“We have over 7,000 staff consisting of able bodied men and women who are indigenes of Ondo State and possess various certificates and degrees.

The police in Ondo State invaded our office at Alagbaka and sealed up our office. And since then, we have not been functioning very well .

”So, we are appealing to the state government to intervene and direct the police to reopen our office headquarters in Alagbaka, since the Peace Corps is functioning in many states of the federation,”he stated.

The Commandant hinted that the bill on the establishment of Peace Corp is already being debated at the National Assembly, stating that as soon as it is passed into law and assented to by the President, it will be called Nigeria Peace Corps.

He commended the South west governors for initiating Amotekun to tackle insecurity, saying it would help solve crime-related issues happening in the zone.
