Relief has come to various communities in Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Government areas of Ondo State, following the commencement of waterways desilting by the state government.
Residents of communities affected by the recent heavy downpour described the move as a timely intervention aimed at alleviating their suffering.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Ecology and Technical Affairs, Elisha Ebijimi, recently disclosed that some communities in Ilaje, Ese-Odo, Irele, Okitipupa and Ondo would benefit from the exercise.
He noted that the government would commence work on waterways in Ilaje and Ese-Odo, adding that the exercise was expected to be carried out before the end of the month.
Ebijimi explained that the amphibious machine deployed by the government was ready for the desilting operation but that the work could not begin earlier because of the high water level.
According to him, the water level has now receded sufficiently for the desilting operation to commence.
The Special Assistant further disclosed that work was already ongoing in Ile-Oluji, Okeigbo and the bypass area of Akure South Local Government area.
He added that the government would also address flooding around Araromi and Oshukoti market in Akure.
