Religious harmony has been described as a great ingredient to peaceful coexistence in Nigeria as it gives the citizens the trust to live together without suspicion and fear.
The chairman, Nigerian Inter Religious Council, NIREC, Akoko Northwest Chapter, Alhaji Ibraheem Kilani gave this description at the inauguration of the 10-man body saddled with the peaceful interactions and existence among religious faithful in the council area recently.
At the inauguration ceremony held at Okeagbe, headquarters of the local government, Alhaji kilani commended the peaceful coexistence and the harmonious relationship among the religious groups in the area.
He appealed to religious preachers to deviate from provocative and abusive sermons that might lead to unrest or breaking of law and order.
The religious leader also warned all those who were out to forment trouble under the guise of masquerades to note that the constitution of Nigeria guarantee freedom of movement hence on one faith must not infringe another faith rights.
He commended the Federal government for establishing NIREC at national State and local government levels to fufil its statutory roles of peace setters and makers.
The chairman of Akoko Northwest Local Government, Elder Ayodele Akande ably represented by his vice, Chief Anthony Adeyanju described the calibre of membership of the committee as highly committed, respected religious and community leaders in the area.
Akande disclosed that the body has been doing a lot particularly in the area of fervent prayers, advisory role and sensitization of the people with words of God at their various worshipping centres, making the local government administration to witness peaceful atmosphere devoid of rancour and crisis.
The Chairman used the occasion to solicit for the support of the body on the forthcoming 30years anniversary of the council.
He later inaugurated the 10 member committee with Alhaj Ibrahim kilani and Pastor Samuel Popoola as co-chairman and Alhaji Hussein Mohamed as the Secretary.
