If high academic and moral standards would be achieved and the education sector saved from collapse in Nigeria, schools must be returned to the christian community, it has been observed.
The Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria CAN in Ondo State, Revd Dr Ayo Oladapo gave the observation while speaking with The Hope in an interview in Akure.
Oladapo said christian community has been the vanguard for sound education, adding that the history of education in the nation can not but be attributed to the efforts of the early missionaries who brought christianity alongside western education which impact has been on the nation till date.
According to him, the christian community is still preserving the discipline, high academic and moral standards laid down by the missionaries which is evidenced in the schools being managed 100 percent by the community.
“Up till now, if you go to schools that are controlled 100 percent by christian community, you will still see standard not being compromised.
“You can’t hear of examination malpractice, no indecent dressing or all sorts of immoralities witnessed today in educational sector. This is why we continue to hold on to our agitation that schools be returned to christian Community.
“During the time of Dr Olusegun Mimiko, we made a presentation to him and strongly demanded that school be returned to christian community. And when the incumbent governor came, we equally made the same request during the education summit organised three years ago but up till now, nothing has been done”, he stressed.
He called on government to return schools to christian community who are the original owners to save the education sector in the nation from collapse.
He also charged students to ensure that they really labour for the result they are being given. He urged the teachers to take the teaching of the students seriously so that their lives will truly be molded.
