Slain OSUSTECH Lecturer, VC berates Nigeria’s insecurity

From Fasusi Martins, Okitipupa
|
The Vice Chancellor,  Ondo State University of Science and Technology,( OSUSTECH) Okitipupa, Prof Roberts Ogunduyile has berated the rate of insecurity in the country which he said is becoming unbearable and of great concern that needed to be addressed holistically by government at all levels.

Ogunduyile expressed this concern during the commendation/ service of songs held in memory of Late Prof. Gideon Okedayo a Prof in the Department of Mathematical Science in the University who was recently kidnapped by yet to be identified gunmen.

It will be recalled that Prof. Gideon Okedayo was kidnapped and later found dead along Auchi –  Igara road while traveling along with his driver to his village in Kogi State

Ogunduyile described the late. Okedayo as a rare gem and pleasant personality who would ignore his challenges to solve others problems.

He described his contributions to the University as enormous and unbiased.

Ogunduyile stressed that his commitment and dedication to duty are some of his the legacies that would not only be missed by the University but by everyone who has passed through his tutelage.

“I will miss him and the whole OSUSTECH and the community will miss him ” He lamented

In his sermon, Pastor. Enoch Idris, Regional Pastor, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Akure said there are three days in man’s life: day of birth, wedding and death.

He said it was that of death that always come unannounced. He therefore admonished everyone to always prepare for death as it can come at anytime

Pastor. Enoch while taking his text from the books of Job 14:1-3 and Heb 9:27, said “it was appointed for men to die once and after death is judgement.

Okedayo’s  daughter, Ige Okedayo in her own tribute described her late father as her confidant who she could not hide anything from.” I was so close to him that I couldn’t hide anything for him including my academic performance.  I will greatly miss him but my joy is that  he served God throughout his life ” She said.

Mojisola Akinrelere, a 500  level student of Mathematics said he was not just a Lecturer but a father who will always want them to take responsibilities.

“His death was a rude shock ” she said: The late Prof. Gideon Okedayo was later interred in his house at Eyitemi Street, Custom Office Road, Idepe Okitipupa. He was born on 19th November, 1968 in Ogori, Kogi State. He started his higher educational pursuit at the University of Ilorin where he bagged a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1992.

He joined the services of OSUSTECH on 29th July, 2011 as a Senior Lecturer  and was appointed the Acting Head of Department of Mathematical Sciences in 2013 till 2016

Until his demise, he was a member of the current Governing Council of the University. He was a Zonal pastor of RCCG and by extension, the Coordinator of the University monthly prayer service.
