The Ondo State Football Association (FA) has congratulated its Vice-Chairman, Mr Oladimeji Abimbola, on his appointment as Chairman of the Ondo State Sports Council.

The association also expressed appreciation to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for finding one of its serving board members worthy of the appointment.

The FA, under the leadership of its Chairman, Otunba Sunday Dele-Ajayi, described Abimbola’s appointment as a recognition of his experience, commitment and contributions to sports development in the state.

In a statement signed by the FA Secretary, Femi Adeleye, Dele-Ajayi said the association was particularly delighted that a serving member of the FA board had been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the Sports Council.

He commended the governor for his continued support for sports and for entrusting Abimbola with the responsibility of helping to reposition sports development in the state.

The FA chairman said he was confident that Abimbola would bring his wealth of experience as a sports administrator and football stakeholder to bear in his new assignment.

Dele-Ajayi assured the governor and the new Sports Council chairman of the association’s support and cooperation toward promoting grassroots sports, talent discovery and sporting excellence across Ondo State.

He congratulated Abimbola on the appointment and wished him a successful tenure.

Meanwhile, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ondo State Chapter, also congratulated Coach Dimeji Abimbola on his appointment as Chairman of the Ondo State Sports Council.

The Chairman of SWAN in the state, Segun Giwa, described Abimbola’s appointment as “a round peg in a round hole,” noting that his wealth of experience in grassroots sports administration makes him well-suited for the position.

Giwa urged the new chairman to deploy his experience and expertise towards reviving the dwindling fortunes of sports in the state.

“As an association, we have no doubt that Abimbola will put all his experience and resources to work to return Ondo State to where it truly belongs in the comity of states, particularly as far as football is concerned,” the statement said.

SWAN also expressed confidence that Abimbola and other members of the newly constituted leadership would have a successful tenure, while praying for divine guidance and wisdom as they discharge their responsibilities.

The association further commended the Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for appointing as a seasoned sports administrator to head the Sports Council.

SWAN said the appointment demonstrated the governor’s commitment to looking inward and entrusting the state’s sports administration to capable hands.

The association wished Abimbola and the other members of the Sports Council a successful tenure and urged them to work diligently towards repositioning sports in Ondo State.
