Suspected herdsmen behead ‘vigilante’ in Ondo

A 58-year-old vigilante, Kasali Ajeigbe, has been reportedly beheaded by  assailants suspected to be Fulani herdsmen in Ondo East Local Government area of Ondo State.

The Hope Metro reliably gathered that the deceased, who was a security guard with a sawmill, was killed by his assailants on his way home from work about 5:30am on Friday.

A brother to the deceased, one Mr Saheed Ajeigbe, told our correspondent that Kasali went to work on Thursday evening, and while returning home on Friday morning, the bandits met him where he was waiting by the road side  and cut his neck, leaving him in a pool of his own blood.

 ”On Thursday, my late brother went to his duty post in the evening. And when he was coming home on Friday, he stood by the road side looking for bike or car to take him home because where he was working is about three kilometers to his house.

” But some Fulani men who were being chased by some policemen from Oke-Igbo, where they went to rob met him where he was standing and cut off his neck with their knife, while they ran away.

“When the police came they rushed him to the General Hospital where he was confirmed dead. And the body was deposited at the mortuary,” he narrated.

When our correspondent visited the family house of the deceased, his wife, Mrs Deborah Ajeigbe lamented about  the trend in the area for many years, accusing the police of not doing anything about it.

”My husband will be the third person they have killed and whenever we reported the case to the police, they always blame us, ” she added.

She described her husband’s death as, ‘a shock’ while urging government to do something by ordering the Fulani herdsmen to move out of their village, noting that as they could not cope again.

When contacted, the state police spokesman, ASP Tee- Leo Ikoro, who confirmed the death of the man, however, said there was no evidence that herdsmen slaughtered him.
