Members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) played out an entertaining 1-1 draw with the Ondo State Government House team in a friendly match held today at the Government House football pitch in Akure.
The match, aimed at fostering unity and camaraderie between the media and government, drew a modest crowd of staff, aides, and supporters who turned out to cheer both sides.
The match played at the Ondo State Government House Ground on Saturday ended 1-1.
The journalists dominated the first half and looked more like an organised side than the Government House Team by keping possession well and being solid at the back.
The defense of SWAN was very compact and disciplined, which made it difficult for the Government House team to penetrate or create clear chances.
Despite several attempts from the hosts, the journalists backline held firm and frustrated the attackers of the Government House Team with timely tackles and good positioning.
The Journalists eventually broke the deadlock midway through the second half against the run of play, capitalising on a quick counter to take a 1-0 lead.
The goal spurred the Government House team into action and they responded with urgency.
Their pressure paid off when a well-coordinated move produced the equaliser to make it 1-1.
Both sides pushed for a winner in the final minutes but the defenses stood strong.
The game was played in a friendly atmosphere with mutual respect between both teams.
Those present include the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, The Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Ondo State, Kayode Ajulo, the Director General of OSRC Media Group, Mr Kenneth Stevenson-Odusola, Special Adviser on Special Duties, Gani Ajowa, SSA on Signage and Advertisement, Mr Yomi Oyekan among others.
