Timber contractors in police net for raping, videotaping 20-yr-old

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two timber contractors; Anthony Adedokun, 40, and Ayoola Ayodele, 42, in Emure-Ekiti, headquarters of Emure/Orun local government area for raping and videotaping a 20-year-old.

The suspects who are indigenes of Emure-Ekiti, were arrested by the Juvenile Welfare Centre (JWC) attached to the command in Ajebandele area of Ado-Ekiti, capital of Ekiti State.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Sunday Abutu, the matter was reported at the command by the victim, who is an apprentice in Ado-Ekiti.

He said the victim claimed that one of the suspects was her boyfriend whom she met through the social media sometime in 2021.

According to Aburu, “The victim was lured to an apartment in Ajebandele area of Ado-Ekiti under the pretense of securing a job for her in the Nigeria Police Force,  during which the duo forcefully raped and videotaped the girl.

Describing the matter as unfortunate, the PPRO disclosed that the suspects later called the victim few weeks later and informed her to come back for a repeat of the rape and threatened to post the video on a social media should she decline.

He said after the matter was reported by the young girl, while officials of the JWC swung into action and arrested the suspects at a liquor joint located along Ajebandele road within Ado-Ekiti metropolis.

He said further investigation revealed that the victim had earlier solicited financial assistance from one of the suspects, during which she was invited to a relaxation centre in Ado-Ekiti where she was forcefully raped.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Mr Tunde Mobayọ will not take lightly cases of Gender-Based Violence and the violation of human rights generally.

The police boss reiterated the Command’s commitment to the safety of lives and properties of the citizens as well as the fight against Gender-Based Violence and Human Rights abuse.

He appreciated the office of the wife of the Ekiti State Governor, over what he described as her commitment to Gender-Based cases across the State.
