UNIMED begins B.SC Community Medicine soon – VC

The University of Medical Sciences, UNIMED, Ondo is set to begin a degree programme in Community Health Sciences.
This came to the fore during the visit of members of Community Health Practitioners Board of Nigeria, CHPRBN to the Vice-Chancellor in his office.
Vice-Chancellor of the institution Prof. Adesegun Fatusi revealed that the Community Medicine Department of the University has been working on establishing Community Medicine as one of the courses offered by the University.
‘We are putting everything in place to ensure that University of Medical Sciences, UNIMED Ondo is the first in Nigeria to offer B.Sc in Community Medicine instead of normal diploma programmes being offered across Nigerian Universities as of today’, Prof. Fatusi said.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, ‘the University plans to create a pathway of strong and enduring partnership with the Board with the aim of promoting best health care services in the rural communities’.
Prof. Fatusi explained that the programme will be offered on a full-time and part-time basis.
The Vice-Chairman, Community Health Practitioners Board of Nigeria, CHPRBN, Mr. Abdul Idris Muhammad said the Board’s objectives include training of practitioners and conducting examination for trainees and administration of Primary Health Centers across the nation.

    Criteria for getting the admission, and is the program available for direct entry, is Bsc Community Health Practitiona equivalent to Medical Doctor.
