Viral kidnap video not from Ondo — Police

The Ondo State Police Command has debunked a viral video currently circulating on social media, which purports to show a recent kidnapping incident in the state.
In a statement issued by DSP Olusola Ayanlade and made available to The Hope, the Command described the video as not only misleading but entirely false, urging members of the public to disregard it in its entirety.
Findings from police investigations revealed that the incident captured in the footage did not take place in Ondo State as alleged but occurred in a community in neighbouring Edo State sometime last year.
The Command, while expressing deep concern, condemned what it termed as “the deliberate spread of disinformation,” warning that such unfounded claims are capable of inciting panic and jeopardising the concerted efforts being made by security agencies to maintain peace in the state.
“This video is not only false but dangerous. It misleads the public and undermines the work of our security agencies,” the statement emphasised.
It further advised residents to exercise caution when sharing unverified content on social media and other platforms, stressing the need for the public to always verify reports through appropriate and official channels to prevent the escalation of unnecessary tension.
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property, the Command assured residents that security operations remain active and robust across the length and breadth of the state.
The statement urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency lines.
